Helen Tuele, Chair
Board of Directors
James Bay Newspaper Society
April 18, 2013
The James Bay Newspaper Society has proudly been producing our community newspaper for 21 years. The Society's objectives are to educate readers as to their privileges, rights and responsibilities as residents of James Bay; to promote community pride and awareness of identity; to facilitate co-operation between individuals and organizations for the good of James Bay and its residents; to motivate involvement of residents in the community; to increase community awareness of the impact of decisions of governments that directly affect James Bay; to initiate change for good in the community; to highlight community issues; to welcome and inform newcomers; and to inform of opportunities of community service. We do our best to meet these objectives but we cannot do it without our community members' submissions of articles, poems, stories and regular columns.
Many in the community may not be aware that the writers do not get remuneration for their submissions. We hope that more people of our community will submit articles and letters for publication. It's a great way to get published! Our planning meetings held monthly are open to the public and we encourage those of you who are new to our community or those that have been her a long time to please attend the meetings with your ideas or simply email your article, story or poem for publication.
I am saddened that I have now reached the end of my term on the board of directors. I would like to recognize and thank all of the current board members and those that have voluntarily and loyally served the organization over the last twenty-one years. In particular I would like to thank Stephanie Garber who has been a director and served as treasurer for the last six and has reached the end of her term as well.
Many thanks to our very capable administrator, Deborah Antonsen. The board is truly grateful for her steadfast loyalty and commitment shown to the Beacon. Thanks must go as well to our advertising sales manager, Rosalinde Compton, distributor, Ron Hoare and volunteer office assistant, Conni Attwell.
Last but certainly not least I would like to thank all of our creative and production volunteers for your time, talent and energy...writers, editors, graphic designers, layout artists, distributors, technical wizards and photographers...we could not produce the paper without you. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the Society for the last six years. Thank you all!
