It's looking a whole lot brighter around the James Bay Community Project (JBCP) this spring! JBCP has been announced winner of the 6th Annual Charity Paint Giveaway sponsored by White Knight Painting Ltd., one of the largest and oldest painting companies in Victoria.
James Bay Community Project's executive director, Kaye Kennish said: "To be chosen from 161 nominations is an incredible honour and we are very grateful for White Knight's generosity. The exterior of our building will now get a much needed facelift!"
The JBCP provides an important range of services and opportunities in our neighborhood including a community library, public access computers, health and wellness programs, food assistance, and many interesting opportunities for almost 300 volunteers. It also operates The Community Closet thrift store in the James Bay Square Mall, a social enterprise that donates all of its profits back into funding programs at the Project.
Giving back to the community is a key element of White Knight's vision of itself as a business. Every year the company seeks community input to nominate individuals, non-profits and even businesses that could benefit from complementary painting services worth about $3,000. "This year we received 161 nominations," a company newsletter said, and "it seems that every year it gets harder to choose."
Past recipients of the annual Charity Paint Giveaway have included: MacDonald House (2009), Cridge Transition House for Women (2010), Single Parent Resource Center (2011), Bridges for Women Society(2012), and Victoria Brain Injury Society (2013).
