Handmade, homemade and homegrown
Aug 2014
By Larry Freeman, James Bay Market Manager
The summer market season continues to astonish many with the variety of Local Handmade, Homemade and Homegrown items that are available every Saturday at the James Bay Market. This started in the beginning of May and continues until the Saturday Oct 11 just before Thanksgiving. It is this time of the year that we come together to celebrate the hard work of many with the bountiful fall harvest.
At this time of year we can see the abundance that we are gifted with. We are blessed living in such a wonderful place where we are able have access to fresh local produce, the variety local artisans and their creations, and enjoy the multitude of local talent that exists in our own backyards.
We live in a part of the world where running water is abundant, the ocean breeze flows, and the climate allows for outside activity year round. Add to the mix, a strong community with the James Bay Market, the James Bay Community Center and School, the James Bay Community Closet, the James Bay New Horizons Center for Senior's and the James Bay Project for Alternative Health, and we can see that community is alive and well in James Bay.
As the summer market season ends, we can take great comfort in knowing that for those of us who choose to support the JBM, that we have done our part in creating community. With the 34 Annual Dickens Fair, an extension of the summer market, scheduled for December 6, we once again will have an opportunity to share, support and encourage handmade, homemade and homegrown, all things which make for a strong, healthy and vital community.
Thank you for giving your time, energy and effort to the JBM, we have all made a difference in our own way. We'll see you every Saturday from 9-3 at the corner of Menzies and Superior and at the final Market of the season, Harvest Day, on Saturday Oct 11 (Thanksgiving weekend) at the last James Bay Market of the 2014 season. Help us celebrate our last market with corn on the cob, pie contest & our farmers' harvest!
Note: The 34 Annual Dickens Fair is set for December 6 and we are currently accepting applications for vendors and volunteers. Visit www.jamesbaymarket.com/dickens-fair for further details.
