Touring the float homes
Aug 2014
By Anne Draper
The Float Home Village at Fisherman's Wharf holds an annual open house tour with several of the 33 colourful cottages made accessible for viewing by their friendly owners. Sunday, June 22, 2014 found the writer in the float home community visiting with our James Bay close-knit residents. A happy relaxed group of home owners invited interested viewers on to each and every doorstep. And descriptions were offered of individually designed and decorated homes with photos allowed. Questions about: "How do the homes float? How much hydro is available? Where does the sewage go? Do you pay property taxes? Who do you pay moorage to? How do you heat the house? Does the house rock a lot? Do you live here all year round? What is it like in winter? were answered during our tour with warm and unhurried smiles." A happy sociable group of resourceful, active and amiable people who have become a small village in the James Bay Neighbourhood and plan to donate a portion of their fundraising project to James Bay Community School/Centre later this year.
