What a great opportunity to have FUN in James Bay!

James Bay New Horizons at 234 Menzies Street is one of the best places to meet your neighbours and get involved in classes from art to yoga. At Friday Forums we invite guest speakers to discuss topical issues. We offer activities from Bridge to Scrapbooking. We also host special events and organize day trips to areas around Victoria and the lower mainland. Saltspring Island was a very successful daytrip this summer. Sorry we missed you!

Another important part ot the activities at JBNH are workshops, seminars and meetings about the development of James Bay and Victoria. We are vitally interested in what happens where we live. We work co-operatively with the City of Victoria in the Official Community Planning project and other aspects such as affordable housing for people over the age of 55 (empty nesters and seniors). We participate in the City of Victoria L.I.F.E. program which offers low income citizens and opportunity to receive funding for memberships and activities.

We prepare a monthly calendar of events and publish weekly bulletins so you can know exactly what is going on at our Centre.

On September 15th from 10.00 to 2.00 we are hosting our annual Open House which is the best way to find out about James Bay New Horizons. Please come and join us. There will be refreshments, demonstrations and information about the services and activities we offer.

JBNH has been connecting people since 1974. Last year we had about 700 members, with a range of ages from 40 to 104. We welcome all. Come and share our belief that active living is the best way to celebrate life.

The yearly membership fee is$35,00. It is prorated after August 1. There is a drop in fee of $2.00 for activities such as card games, exercise classes, current events and much more.

A variety of instructional programs have a nominal fee. Of course we offer FREE ativities and services including Friday Forum and Blood Pressure Clinics.

In 2005, we were asked by the City of Victoria Police Department to take over the Senior Reassurance Program. This program allows people that live by themselves the peace of mind in knowing they will receive a daily call to check that they are okay. This is a free service provided by volunteers at James Bay New Horizons.

My name is Kim Dixon and I am the Executive Director of JBNH. I want to express my personal invitation to the Open House on September 15th. The Board of Directors and staff look forward to meeting with you and giving you an idea of what we have to offer. We hope that you will take this opportunity to become active and involved in the busiest activity centre in Victoria.
