Attention James Bay Residents...the 31st annual James Bay Day will be held on Saturday, September 18th, 2010 from 11:00am-3:00pm in the beautiful Irving Park (on the corner of Michigan and Menzies Streets). Over the last 30 years James Bay day has taken on a variety of formats; for 2010, the daytime festival will include fantasitic entertainers, interactive activities, demonstrations and delicious free food for the whole community.

Community celebrations and festivals are popular and plentiful in the Greater Victoria region. Now James Bay, here is your chance to celebrate your amazing community. James Bay Day celebrates community engagement and connections by providing activities where young and old can play, dance, create, eat and learn together.

Why you shouldn't miss James Bay Day 2010:

Live Entertainment

The event features music by Kikeyamba, a West African Electric Orchestra and Greenlaw, a local soul, dub, drum and base group, generously sponsored by The Superior. Also enjoy the jazzy, swing sounds of the John MacArthur Quartet, sponsored by the Heron Rock Bistro. The New Horizon Choir, the Saints and Singers will also be performing as well as the Dipples a children's entertainment group.

Demonstrations

Our centre stage will also be busy with many fantastic demonstrations. Check out the Zumba fitness demo and get a sense of the flavour of the Mediterranean in rhythm and song from Kouskous a Middle Eastern drumming duo. The Poi Pixies will also be on site providing interactive demonstrations in hoola hoop and poi (a weighted dance tools that are spun around the body in rhythmic patterns). Come cheer on the Scallywags dog agility as the dogs run their obstacle course.

Activities

James Bay Day provides activities and art opportunities that are fun for all ages. Coast Capital will be providing face painting, activities and a chance to meet Wally the Whale. Join us for community soccer games, bocce and Frisbee or relax and enjoy the entertainment in our tea garden while playing chess and checkers. Children are invited to make lanterns for the James Bay Community Illumination taking place on the evening of the 18th. Be apart of our community lantern installation which will also be constructed during James Bay Day and lit up that evening.

Food

Don't forget the free food!! Fill your bellies with good things like corn on the cob, homemade chili, hot dogs, ice cream and popcorn.

So whether you are new to the James Bay Community or have lived here for years come and celebrate our dynamic community....we'll see you there!
