Question: "I often have a tight feeling between my shoulder blades. Stretching and massage help but do not last. Is there anything else I can be doing?"
Answer: From an osteopathic point of view I am curious about your digestive health. All organs in our body refer dysfunction to the outside of our bodies. We sense this phenomenon as tightness, dull pain or tension. Our stomach and esophagus refer right between our shoulder blades. This is noticed most often a half to three hours after eating. If you are dealing with any GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disorder), reflux, heartburn, excessive gas or constipation, perhaps your stomach is the cause of this back tightness. Is your stomach and esophagus aligned properly? Is your respiratory diaphragm allowing the stomach and pancreas to work properly? How are your eating habits? How well do you chew your food? How much water do you drink daily? These are all parts of the puzzle that need to be examined. For temporary relief try placing a hot water bottle over your stomach region next time this tightness happens. Heating pads do not work well for this as they are dry heat and it is the moist heat that actually penetrates inward.

Question: I try to really live how I want to be and what I want to do in my life. Why do I find myself over and over again in the same old situations?
Answer: A lot of what we think, feel and how we behave is actually from the past. What we experienced especially early in our lives when we were dependent on the care of our parents and caregivers, stays with us as conditioned experiences.
In those years we formed beliefs about ourselves and the world.
We believed what others said about us. We also translated the feelings and behaviors of the people close to us into messages about ourselves. For example, "My parents send me into my room" could be translated into "Something must be wrong with me, I am unlovable." We unconsciously absorbed collectively held beliefs from our society. It is a form of programming, seeing ourselves and others through the eyes of our belief programs. This creates the same old situations over and over again and we fulfill our own truths or beliefs.
There are more beautiful and easier ways available to us to find those underlying beliefs in ourselves and dissolve them. Free of those beliefs we can then shift more effortlessly into living who we truly want to be and how we want to live our lives.

Question: I feel fine and am generally pain free. Why would I consider Structural Integration?
Answer: The model of Structural Integration is a model of education, not repair and remediation. Although repair, remediation and relaxation may well be an outcome of the session and the series in its entirety, education is the primary focus. We hear the word education, but what does that mean? Before you go wandering down memory lane of past teachers and academic curricula, I will define it as specific to the Structural Integration model. This model of education is about you. Structural Integration is work that re-patterns our connective tissue fabric. In these sessions you will learn about your own structure, posture and movement patterns. From a health care model this is an important piece. When our bodies are aligned and lifted, we naturally call upon our own innate health, whereby all bodily processes have the opportunity to work together and with ease. If you "feel fine" this is wonderful news! Perhaps there's more room to feel great! How about living a life where you feel like you're thriving? Question: Can I do a detoxification through homeopathy?
Answer: A homeopathic detox can be seen in the same way as routinely changing the filter in your furnace or the oil in your car. Many of us are concerned about the myriad of chemicals we are exposed to every day and the build-up of these chemicals in our bodies. Homeopathic detox is a safe, effective solution to help rid the body of toxins. It is based on homotoxicology, a branch of homeopathic medicine that promotes the body's detoxification of the preservatives, chemicals, sugar by- products and medicines that accumulate inside us. It is different from the generic purgative detox that can give you diarrhoea for a week to "clean you out." Homotoxicology uses micro-doses of medicine that stimulate and fine tune the main eliminative organs including: the liver (because it is the main detoxifier in our bodies), the kidney (where we eliminate toxic chemical byproducts such as nitrates and phosphates), and the colon (where we store byproducts of inorganic foods products and conventional medications). The detoxification process occurs as a natural result of your body's improved efficiency. It is easy to do, safe, and effective too.
