New Horizons Lauded
Jan 2011
It has been almost four years now since Jassandra and I moved to Victoria from Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. We had spent a week exploring the City for the area that provided all the facilities that a senior would require, mostly as I was no longer driving, a place that was easy to get around with some reasonable walking destinations, and discovered... James Bay had it all! Good bus service, good shopping in the 'Village', and great destination walks in every direction especially to the waterfront.
After we found the right spot on Simcoe Street, about one block from EVERYTHING, and started to settle in, we were cruising the newspapers for what was happening, that was when I found a copy of the Beacon, which was full of things about what was going on and the people and their 'goings on'. It was in this paper I came across an article on the New Horizons Center on Menzies Street, right in the middle of everything. The name of the place seemed to fit our new move, and they had carpet bowling! A fun indoor sport which I had enjoyed in Sechelt.
When I went over to the Center, I discovered all the other great thing's they offered to seniors of all ages, like the exercise classes that even I could manage, and so much more.
Recently, the writing course given by Sheila Martindale, gave me a 'kickstart' into writing again, and put new life into the 'old dog'.
I would like to thank the Center for the excellent facilities, the welcoming, friendly staff, the many friends I have made there, and not the least, The Beacon Newspaper, through which I found my niche'. If you are looking for somewhere to meet people and do 'something', this is the place for you!
