We all know that prices are going up and some of the things we enjoyed are beyond our reach. Most folks have had to cut back on luxuries such as dining out, a night out to the theatre, hair dressing and even special foods.

I have been listening with amazement to the rhetoric from all political parties concerning the likely upcoming election call. The government has offered all sorts of "goodies", millions of dollars to hopefully get its budget passed. The three opposition parties have stated the budget doesn't go far enough, are disappointed and will vote it down. (Disappointed meaning more money to buy votes). The budget projects a deficit of 29.6 billion for the year and the sensible thing to do as every household knows in its home budget is to cut expenses.

How did we as a country get so greedy and "me" oriented that we have lost all common sense. This is a great nation with wonderful benefits for all which was created by past generations who were thrift and work oriented. Great nations in the past have fallen and disintegrated because of greed and an "anything goes" mentality and we will surely follow suit in the not too distant future. Sacrifice and self-control builds character.
