As a long time writer for the James Bay Beacon, I have a lot of respect for our excellent publication and the staff who work incredibly hard to get it to press each month. This is why it really rankles me to see our venerable rag treated with reckless abandon by some members of our community.
When I went to pick up my Beacon in July, I was sickened to see many Beacon copies desecrated by locals and left in a mangled pile in the kiosk outside of James Bay Square. Some thoughtless individuals had cut out the James Bay Inn coupon and just left the wrecked Beacons behind. Ten newspapers were sitting there, totally demolished.
This is a shameful act of disrespect to our great local publication and the people who make it happen. Because the whole stack of papers was ruined, the perpetrators also show a callous disregard for other potential readers.
Note to the perps: If you want that coupon so badly, at least take our newspaper home with you, read it, and then go and eat your fish and chips at the James Bay Inn. Stop acting like overgrown juveniles and show some respect!
