For those who think fighting is part of hockey I propose a new sport to fill this obvious need for both players and fans. Take a normal boxing ring and flood it to make a small sheet of ice. This is a team sport made up of the hockey players from the NHL, six to a team, dressed in full hockey gear minus gloves and helmets and sticks, with two of them in the ring at a time. They beat each other until one falls down. No referee action until the man is down and can't get up, at which time he pronounces the other one the winner. The bout now proceeds to the next two, and on until one team has won more matches than the other. Sudden death overtime if there is a tie. These guys would receive NHL level salaries and fans should be more than willing to pay big bucks to go to such an exciting sport. Then the really talented players can engage in the game without fear of being crippled by players whose only role is to maim and fight, and those fans who wish to see good hockey can choose to go watch them.
