In the matter of progress, our particular spot on the map needs to reinvent itself by developing a new concept. We can be more than just a pleasant bedroom community.  More than just safe and comfortable.  Even exciting. To this end, the James Bay image could include a newly-coined, "Tourism James Bay"-- just like the big boys. The payoff of this notion for your journal could be more advertising, more creative coverage to be read by those who live or work here. For example, how about including an omnibus of slogans such as: "FRIENDS TALK TO FRIENDS ABOUT JAMES BAY"; "JAMES BAY'S CHARACTER IS INVITING" and "OGDEN POINT: WHERE YOU CAN WALK ON WATER WITHOUT GETTING YOUR FEET WET."

Advertisers could also enlarge on such pithy tidbits. Rather than passively just passing through James Bay on their way to downtown, waterborne visitors could be enticed to enjoy our amenities, both current or potential. And spend money here. Most important in this regard, in order to stimulate community action in such an adjunct in future community planning, the James Bay Beacon could play a
major and continuing role.

When it comes to neighbourhood spirit, measured against other communities, ours is stuck in a sleepwalking-into-the-future mode. Others have more specific attitudes: "Discover SIDNEY by the Sea"; "Experience ESQUIMALT"; "Experience DUNCAN".

Why not: "Walk JAMES BAY, Crown Jewel of Victoria?"

Perhaps, the James Bay Beacon could run a contest for other ideas. Good front page stuff.
