Scooter parade
Jun 2012
James Bay New Horizons held a Scooter Parade on Tuesday, May 15th
By Sherri L. Dixon
The objective of this event was to allow our Members, as well as residents of James Bay to voice their safety concerns in regards to the condition of the sidewalks and streets in this area.
The event was emceed by Chris Foord from the CRD Traffic Safety Commission, Councillor Chris Coleman was in attendance as was Alex Agnes, a city transportation staff member. Participants were welcome to ask questions, state concerns, and pin point areas of greatest unrest on a map for Alex to take back to his co-workers.
MEDIchair was kind enough to bring several scooters, and do a presentation on safety, selecting the most appropriate scooter for yourself, as well as, providing information as to future trends in regards to appearance and features.
Once the presentations were completed it was time to send willing participants on one of two routes throughout James Bay. For many, including Alex, this was their first time on a scooter. Giggles were heard from every direction, and we are happy to report that everyone returned safely to James Bay New Horizons.
The Scooter Parade ended with refreshments (including cupcakes from Ooh La La) and several draws of prizes ranging from Scooter Tune-ups, Thrifty Foods Smile Cards and Gift Cards to Serious Coffee.
Many Thanks to our sponsors: the City of Victoria, the CRD Traffic Safety Commission, MEDIchair and HANDIdart.
