Letter - "The Parrot"
Aug 2012
Your July-August paper contained a wonderful poem entitled "The Parrot."
I hope that every one of your readers will mail a copy of this poem to their MP demanding an end to this cruelty.
Knowing the freedom of flying where they choose, these beautiful birds are caught and caged for the rest of their lives, which I'm told can be up to 100 years. Also, as things are now, they will never see another parrot.
Legislation should be introduced to:
Stop these birds from being imported. Make it illegal to confine them in cages.
The next problem is what to do with these birds as those who have them will have to get rid of them. Perhaps the Victoria Conference Centre could rescue them by housing them in the northwest corner of The Crystal Gardens, I can remember when parrots were in that location. Back then, people paid to see them.
