I was raised on a farm in Manitoba. In those days we used horse-drawn buggies for travelling to town to shop. Only one street was available to the horses because of their droppings - the townspeople didn't want the community polluted with horse manure. Thus horse "diapers" were invented!

Grain grown on the farm had to be taken to market. Grain elevators sprang up and the railway was installed. People complained about the noise, the pollution, and the danger of fire from the sparks given off by monster engines. Environmental controls were put into place.

The horse-drawn grain wagon was replaced by the truck-burning fossil fuels, making noise, ruining the streets with their heavy loads, besides the danger to children playing in the streets. More concerns! More controls!

My lifetime has been filled with concern about the environment and the necessary controls to keep it from being harmed.

I believe that the constructors of the Enbridge Gateway pipeline will have the necessary concern for the environment in this century as has been shown by generations in past centuries. Thank God that change and wisdom go hand in hand.
