Letter - Community kindness
Nov 2012
Once again, we have experienced the true "Community Spirit and Kindness" of our local James Bay Neighbourhood.
Last Friday and Saturday (Oct 12 and 13) I felt compelled to stand on the five corners of our James Bay Village to ask any locals or pedestrians, to help my wife and I to fill prescriptions for a dear friend who has spent four years in a battle for life with aggressive (stage 4) cancer.
In such a long struggle and endless procedures and documents trying to get drug coverage for the many medications, some were covered, others were not. My wife, "the Nurse", has spent countless hours running this friend to hospital visits, tests, oncology appointments, drug stores, groceries, etc...the list becomes unending to try to alleviate the pain and frustrations suffered. We who help feel so helpless, when we are are both unemployed ourselves and no income left to help any more than we have. Transportation alone is approximately $20 a week.
In the stress and heartache of these last stages, we can't begin to thank each and every kind soul who gave from their hearts to help our cause.
Even standing out in the rain, we were able to raise enough to fill two prescriptions and even $10 of transportation gas. No one ever knows where a dollar here or there, or kind words of concern will help! We've won a kindness lottery from those who helped.
We are drawing back now, as our friend has miraculously been hospitalized and all medications are covered for now.
May we never forget the kindness of all of you who pay it forward!!! May you all be blessed in small and huge ways - everyday. God IS Good everyday and always. If you see me standing down there again, our friend may still need help. But with the Grace of The Holy Spirit, all is hopefully done. Thank y'all for helping us to do His Work.
