James Bay New Horizons

By Kim Dixon

The skies are looking grey but who has time to notice when you are a member of James Bay New Horizons Society!
Fall programs and activities have started with a wide range of programs including pastel art classes, t'ai chi lessons, theatre improv, greeting card making (just in time for Christmas), an autobiography-writing workshop, language courses, exercise classes such as Zumba dance aerobics, and many more too numerous to list. We invite you to drop by and see what might pique your interest.

We also offer a number of programs that give you the opportunity to socialize with people that may have similar interests and opinions as you do. Every Wednesday the Current Events group meets to discuss news events, while on Monday afternoon participants in the men's group get together to discuss topical items of interest to them. Friday Forum continues with a variety of guest speakers presenting various subjects. Some of the guest speakers are quite amusing, others give us thoughts to ponder.

In October we unveiled the mural at the front of our activity centre. This work was done by local artist Misha Smith and depicts what we think represents the people of the community of James Bay. Be sure to drop by and have a look.

Our handicraft ladies have been busy getting ready for the festive season and will be hosting their first Bazaar on Saturday, October 29th. A light lunch will be available between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m..

Have you seen the posters advertising our "Reflections of Red" show, a tribute to Red Skelton? This is a family show featuring comedian Alan Greenwood with the kind of slapstick comedy that Red Skelton used to pull off. Advance tickets are recommended and can be picked up at the reception desk.

New Horizons activity centre will be a polling station for the municipal election on November 19 and we encourage you to get out and vote. Most of our regularly scheduled programs will be cancelled that day.
