Rising Star: The James Bay Beacon in the 21st Century
by Doreen M. Gee, Space Cadet

Houston, we have a new website! A brand new website for the James Bay Beacon newspaper has been launched and blasted into cyberspace. The staff at the Beacon have been working at warp-speed to get it done and it is now up and running. We are hoping it will make a big bang with our readers.

The Beacon has taken its place alongside all the other bright stars in the on-line community. The contents of the Beacon will now be travelling across the internet universe to all parts of our blue planet. There will be readers beyond every horizon – from Russia to Australia. You can browse through the articles in a sunny café in Paris or on a moonlit terrace overlooking the Nile. Our website will boast the usual stellar content to satisfy intellectual and more down-to-earth tastes. It comes complete with eye candy – a pulsating beam of light from the lighthouse to welcome you aboard. The new website offers readers whole new worlds to explore! The sky is the limit.

We encourage readers to use our new website which is easy to navigate and has a universe of interesting information. The website is a comprehensive collection of enjoyable and enlightening material. The internet site has colours in all spectral wavelengths. Here are some of the highlights and bright stars on our web-pages: lustrous colour photographs of James Bay and Victoria; illuminating full text articles and personal profiles; our intriguing “Mystery House;” a history and description of our paper; a dazzling homepage where you can “click” your way to any section of the paper; and a cluster of “Links” that are informative and educational, and stimulate your mind. These “Links” will guide you to actual websites for Pharmacare, BC Transit, Volunteer Victoria, and many more. If you need bus information or want to sign up for Pharmacare, take a ride through the Beacon website. For a real thrill, enter the cosmos of Beacon Hill Park with a click on the Link to the park. Gorgeous photos, a detailed park history and facts about wildlife will feed your mind and soul. For an added treat, there is “An Overview of Everything” – a site map to help you chart your course through all the information.

The website is not meant to replace our venerable newspaper, but to be a shining addition to it. It is another venue for our faithful readers. So, enjoy the website and tell your friends about it. The benefits are astronomical! The website address is www.jamesbaybeacon.ca. Happy travelling, readers! The Beacon staff wish to acknowledge and thank the Province of British Columbia and their Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch whose funding made this mission along the on-line highway possible.

And now, in a galaxy far, far away . . . .
