Community And Craft Fair

By C. Black, Parent-at-Large

It’s back to class at South Park Family School and what a fantastic beginning it’s been! South Park welcomes new teachers Natasha Mitchell and Ceri Hart, teacher-librarian Kathy Inglis as well as teacher assistant Nichole McInnis. A big welcome back goes to returning teacher assistant Maury Peterman who we missed during the 2006/2007 school year.

Another additions to South Park Family School includes the completion of the natural play space (Phase I of our playground project) in the park across from the school. The new sandpit and additional large stones should provide even more fun and games for the children! Indeed the timing of this completed project was perfect given the fantastic weather we experienced at the beginning of September and the back-to-school-barbecue and potluck for South Park families and staff. Speaking of which, what a fabulous event this was! Organized by this year’s Chair and Vice Chair of Committees (Jen Coombes and Bev Fraser respectively) and with the assistance of parents and staff, a wide variety of tasty items of the vegan and lacto-ovo variety and dishes-for-the-carnivorous were on the menu. The turn-out was great, the conversations and laughter flowed and adults and children alike enjoyed some fun times out on the field.

So other than trying-out our new playground additions on the weekend, how else can members outside the South Park Family School community experience what we have to offer? Our first South Park Family School Winter Craft Fair of course! Held on Saturday, November 24th, tables will be available for anyone to rent and everyone is welcome to attend. Please contact Jen Coombes at 381-0287 or e-mail her at tdcoombes@shaw.ca if you would like to sell your goods at the fair. More details about this event will be available in next month’s Beacon. Happy Fall all!
