The James Bay Community School Society held its annual general meeting on November 22, 2010. The AGM report details past accomplishments and identifies goals set for the next budget year. The report can be found on our website at .
The James Bay Community School choir, led by Principal Janice Matthews, has seen record numbers of participants this past fall. The choir has over 60 kids, who most recently preformed with the Arbutus Singers at the Grandmothers for Africa presentation on November 10, 2010. Don't miss the next performance of the James Bay Community School choir on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the annual Winter Concert.
The school will be hosting its annual Scholastic Book Fair in the school library on Friday, December 3, from 2:40-4:00pm and Saturday, December 4,tfrom 10:00-3:00pm. Proceeds from this event are used to replenish the James Bay Community School Library. For every $10 spent on books, $6 goes directly to the purchase of new books for the library.
The Dickens Fair, hosted by the Market Society, is another good reason to drop by the school/centre on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Works of over 50 juried artists will be on sale as well as fantastic festive foods and seasonal produce.
The James Bay Community School Centre values the opportunity to bring community members together throughout the year and especially during the holiday season. The Seniors' Holiday Dinner will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 5:00pm. Many of our civic and school leaders will be on hand to serve this special meal. As well, our Community Holiday Dinner will be held the following week on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Bring the whole family to share a meal with friends and enjoy the James Bay Community School Winter Concert after dinner. These dinners are hugely popular and affordable, so buy your tickets early at the Centre desk.
As the weather turns cold and we are fortunate enough to have warm homes and clothes, we often think of others who are not as fortunate. During the month of December the James Bay Community School Centre will be collecting new, or gently used socks for users of Our Place. Please drop off your donation of socks at the Centre desk from December 1 to 18.
The Centre will be closed from December 18 until January 4. Need childcare during the holiday break? Check out our Winter Adventures for school aged children. Contact Jeff Stubbs at 250-389-1470 for more information. New programs will begin the week of January 10, 2011. The Winter/Spring Program and Activity guides will be available at the Centre by mid-December. Pick yours up at the James Bay School Centre or watch for your very own copy arriving in the mail. Make a program at the James Bay Community Centre part of your new year's resolution!
