James Bay Community Project

By Kaye Kennish

The James Bay Community Project (JBCP) recently bade farewell to our receptionist Joi and welcomed her successor in the position, Susan Wilson. Susan worked at JBCP soon after it started some 38 years ago, and we are very happy to welcome her back after all this time. Susan is the person who greets and assists the hundreds of people who come into our building or call us every week, and many of you will get to know her quite well!

Just a few of the reasons people come to or call the James Bay Community Project include: to arrange assistance with filing their taxes; to order and pick up their Good Food Box; to register for and attend one of the many health and wellness programs we host during the day and in the evening; to arrange for  a medical drive ; to attend one of the Drop-Ins in our Family Centre; to access the services of our Youth Clinic; to chat with one of our Outreach Workers or to volunteer in one of a myriad of ways.

Another resource we offer is our library, which is open from Monday to Friday 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. It has a collection of more than 3,000 books, including fiction (lots of mysteries!), biographies and other non-fiction. It includes a wide selection of large print books in hard and soft covers, as well as up-to-date health care books.

In the library a computer is available for those who need to check emails, go online or type documents. Free computer lessons can be booked.
